Invest & Partner

Assess opportunities and structure partnerships with discipline.

Capital and partnership decisions deserve a written process. Use the opportunity memo template to state a thesis, the diligence guide to test it, and the partnership checklist to structure the relationship before money moves.

Opportunity Memo Template

One page per opportunity. If a section is empty, that is your diligence task list. Africawe provides decision-support tools, not investment advice.

1. The Opportunity in One Paragraph

  • What is the business, where does it operate, and what does it sell?
  • Why does it need capital or a partner now?

2. Thesis

  • Why could this work, in three sentences?
  • What structural change or advantage makes it possible?
  • What has to be true for the thesis to hold?

3. People

  • Who runs it, what have they built before, and who vouches for them?
  • Who else holds ownership or influence?
  • What is their track record of reporting honestly?

4. Numbers

  • Revenue, gross margin, and cash position for the last 24 months.
  • Who prepared the accounts and were they reviewed independently?
  • What are the three assumptions the forecast depends on?

5. Structure

  • Instrument under discussion: equity, loan, revenue share, or joint venture.
  • Valuation or pricing basis, and comparable references.
  • Governance: board seats, information rights, reserved matters.

6. Risks

  • Regulatory, currency, concentration, governance, and reputational risks.
  • How capital and returns would move across borders, and under what rules.
  • Which single risk would you most likely be wrong about?

7. Contribution Beyond Capital

  • What expertise, market access, or distribution do you add?
  • How much time will this realistically take each month?

8. Decision & Next Step

  • Proceed, pause, or pass — and the reason in one sentence.
  • The single next action, owner, and date.
